A labor lawyer warns workers about company layoffs during the summer holidays: "This is a mistake."

Being laid off is a difficult situation that many people experience at some point in their working lives. But if it happens while you're on vacation, in the middle of August, the shock is doubly so. What should you do in these cases? Does being away from work change anything?
Labor lawyer Juanma Lorente, an expert who regularly shares legal advice on social media, spoke on this topic. In one of his most recent TikTok videos, he explains whether you can be fired while on vacation and what happens if you receive the letter in the middle of summer.
According to him, it's perfectly legal to be fired during vacation. The key, however, is not to let it slide. "I've seen people who were at the beach, received the letter, and said, 'I'll look into it when I get back.' That's a mistake," he warns.
Whether or not you're working at the time, the deadline to challenge your dismissal remains the same: 20 business days. If you let that time pass, thinking that "everything will be at a standstill" in August, you could lose your right to file a claim. And with it, potentially significant compensation.

Lorente insists that this mistake is more common than it seems. "I know of cases of people who could have received good compensation and who, because they thought the deadline wasn't in August, missed that opportunity," he explains.
